A specialized private learning academy dedicated to nurturing communication, independence, and joy in children with autism spectrum disorder through individualized, sensory-informed instruction.
The Wheeler Learning Academy was founded on a simple belief: every child deserves an education built around their unique needs, not the other way around.
"We specialize in serving nonverbal and minimally verbal students with autism spectrum disorder, using evidence-based, sensory-informed methods to unlock communication and build foundational literacy skills."
Our intimate 1-on-1 model ensures that every moment of every school day is designed specifically for our student — their pace, their strengths, their joy.
We combine structure with flexibility, using proven autism-informed strategies to create a learning environment where every child can thrive.
Every lesson connects to communication. We use AAC tools, PECS, and letter-to-meaning activities to give students a real voice — not just academic skills.
Regular sensory and movement breaks are built into every day — not as rewards, but as essential components of a regulated, ready-to-learn nervous system.
From sand trays to finger paint to magnetic letters, we teach pre-writing and letter recognition through hands-on, multisensory experiences that stick.
Predictable routines with visual supports reduce anxiety and build independence. Our students always know what comes next — and that safety enables learning.
We celebrate every attempt, every interaction, every spark of engagement. Progress is measured on the child's own timeline — not a standardized benchmark.
Parents are partners in every step of the educational journey. Our model keeps families deeply involved in progress, strategies, and celebration.

These bracelets were handmade with love by a mama on a mission.
My son Vision Wheeler is 8 years old, non-verbal, and one of the most extraordinary human beings I have ever known. He communicates through an AAC device, sees the world in a way most people never will, and deserves an education that meets him exactly where he is.
"Vision doesn't need to be fixed. He needs a world big enough for who he already is."
Since moving to California, Vision was placed in multiple schools — each one promising to support him, and each one falling short. In October 2024, he was assaulted by a teacher's aide. We fought for a new placement and finally found hope — until that school shut down on his 9th birthday, May 4th, 2026, following another assault on an autistic child.
I sat with my son on his birthday and made a decision: I am done waiting for the system to get it right.
How We Fundraise 🧿
I am a jewelry maker. I handcraft every bracelet myself — beaded with intention, strung with love. At community events and farmers markets, I give away my bracelets as thank-you gifts to everyone who donates to Vision's education.
"Every bead strung with love, every dollar spent on Vision." 🧿
Every amount is welcome. Every dollar goes directly to Vision.
